1. Open Start Menu > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks.
2. Double-Click Add Scheduled Task.
3. Click Next.
4. Click Browse.
5. Open C:\WINDOWS\System32\shutdown.exe
6. Name the task. e.g. Shutdown Daily at 8am.
7. Select the appropriate schedule. To automatically shutdown your PC daily select Daily.
8. Click Next.
9. Set the time you want to run the task daily.
10. Click Next.
11. Enter and confirm your user account password.
12. Click Next.
13. Check Open Advanced Properties for this task when I click Finish.
14. Click Finish.
15. After that the advanced properties for the task will open.
16. In the Run text box after C:\WINDOWS\System32\shutdown.exe append -s -t 02
17. Click OK.

For Windows Vista

1. Open Start Menu.
2. In the search box type Task Scheduler.
3. Open Task Scheduler.
4. In the Right Pane Click Create Task.
5. Give a name to the task.
6. Click Triggers.
7. Click New.
8. Under Settings select Daily.
9. Specify the appropriate time to run the task daily.
10. Click OK.
11. Click Actions.
12. Click New.
13. Click Browse and open C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe
14. In the Add Arguments text box type -s -t 02
15. Click OK.
16. Click Settings.
17. Check If the task fails restart every: 1 minute
18. Click OK.

3. Type shutdown -s -t 02 (windows will shutdown after 2 seconds. valid 0~600)

5. Type a descriptive name of your choosing for the shortcut

1. Open New Shortcut Wizard as Said before.
2. In the first box of the Create Shortcut Wizard, type : Shutdown -r -t 02 (windows will restart after 2 seconds. valid 0~600)

4. Name the shortcut Restart & click Finish.

Open notepad.exe

Write these lines including the last blank line

And save this file as “Terminal.bat” (without quote) at C:\Users\<username>

(In my case which happens to be C:\Users\Mukul)

Click File > New

Write these lines including the last blank line

Tip: The line ‘echo Welcome Mukul…’ will be displaying the welcome message ‘Welcome Mukul…’ every time you open your command prompt. Write anything you like after echo.

Tip: The line ‘title Terminal@MUKUL-LAPTOP’ will be displaying the title of the command prompt window you will open. You can write anything after title.

And save this file as “welcome_text.bat” (without quotes) at C:\Users\<username>

Open the Home folder i.e. C:\Users\<username>

Locate the file Terminal.bat. Right-click on it > Click Send To > Desktop (create shorchut)

Close everything.

Locate Terminal.bat – shortcut on your Desktop.

Right-Click it > Click Properties

Click in the Shortcut Key textbox and hit F4. (you can hit any shortcut you like)

Click OK.

Bingo!! All done. Now every time you need to open command prompt just hit F4. Your personalized command prompt will show up.

As a result you are currently being unable to download photos from someone’s orkut album.

If you use Firefox this should not be a concern for you. You will easily be able to save photos from orkut albums on your computer by doing what i am going to write here.

Open orkut in Firefox.

Then open the photo you want to save.

Click Tools > Page Info.

Click Media.

Below in the media list scroll down and search for a entry like

Torrent download for this movie will be in two parts. First you have to download a file named My_Movie_(2008).torrent from available web sites.

Then you have to open this torrent file with a tranmission client software like μTorrent or BitTorrent and it will download the original movie file from P2P network.

So, first you have to download and install a transmission client program on your PC.

Download μTorrent 1.8 from here.

Dowload BitTorrent from here.

There are several other similar applications like BitComet or Vuze (formerly Azureus).

After installation open μtorrent and set the upload speed limit to 10Kbps for optimal download speed. (for Dataone users only)

Click Option > Preferences. Click Bandwidth and set the Maximum Upload Rate to 10.

Now search for the torrent file you want to download at Torrentz.com. Virtually anything, any thing is available as torrent download.

e.g. Search for Windows XP on Torrentz.com by clicking here.

Click any of the link on the results shown.

Then you can see a list of websites like mininova.org, thepiratebay.org or btmon.org etc.

Click any of them.

Then the website that is hosting the torrent will open. Click Download this torrent link to download the torrent file. Then open the torrent file with μtorrent and it will start to download.

Tip: Downloading torrent is legal. Downloading copyrighted material isn’t.

The rest part is for Dataone users with night unlimited plan.

You can schedule μtorrent to download only from 2am to 8am. Although you can force start any download at any time.

Click Option > Preferences > Scheduler. Check Enable Scheduler.

Each block represent a hour in a week. Find the boxes representing 2am – 8am for the whole week. Turn them green by clicking them. Turn all other boxes white by clicking them too.

Now save the settings and exit. Now you can leave your PC on the night and μtorrent will automatically use the happy hour to the full extent for you.

To shutdown your PC automatically at 8am each morning you need to schedule a tack in windows.

Click start > all programs > accessories > system tools > scheduled tasks.

Create a new task. (basic task won’t do the trick, select advanced task) Set the options properly to run the task or to trigger the task daily at 7:58am.

When asked for application to open browse and select C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe

In the argument box type “-s -t 02″. (without the quotes)

Your PC will be automatically shut down at 7:58:02am every day.

Did you ever accidentally format your Hard Drive while trying to install Linux on the Hard Disk that have already Windows installed on a partition of it?

Well, now forget all tha hassle you have to go through when installing a new OS along with other OSs on your PC.

Download and install VMware Wokstation on your PC. It will entirely virtualise the hardwares of your PC and you can run seperate OSs simultaneously just as you run other applications on your PC.

VMware is not a free product. You can downlaod the 30 days evaluation pack from here.

After downloading and installing VMware Workstation on your PC you need to set up new Virtual PCs inside your PC. This virtual PCs will run the different OSs you intend to run.

You can set up the amount of hard disk space and RAM you wanna give to a particular Virtual PC.

You can link your physical DVD-Rom or any ISO Image file to be used by the virtual PC.

You can use the NAT (network address translation) option to use the host OS’s IP address. That means if the host OS is connected to internet you can browse the internet from the guest OS also.

Host OS – On the OS you have installed VMware Workstation

Guest OS – The OS’s that will run on the virtual PCs.

You can share files between the host and the guest OSs. You can also drag and drop files between those two.

Tip: You need to install VMware Tools on each of the guest OSs to do all things right. Google it for more help.

I am running Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 as my host OS.

I am using three guest OSs on three seperate Virtual PCs

• Fedora Core 9 64-bit
• Windows XP Professional SP3
• Sun Solaris 10 64-bit.

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is a similar application. It has some limitations though.

You need to register free for requesting the CD.

The delivery may take upto 5-6 weeks depending on your location.

You can run Ubuntu direct from the CD itself. No need to install on your PC.

Pretty cool huh? Try it. Its absolutely free.

And I would tell you that it is the process through which you can hide your ip address while surfing the internet.

If your isp provides a static ip address then your PC is quite vulnerable to attacks through internet. And your ip address is known to most of the web site owners / administrators that you visit using your PC.

Then hiding your ip address will be a useful part of your PC security.

Well if you are doing something over web that is you know not OKAY for everyone, especially for someone you better do it anonymously unless you got the guts to face the consequences.

For anonymity I use one of these two applications – JAP, Tor.

Both are free of cost but your browsing exeperience will get a little slower using Anonymizer Software.

Between these twos I prefer Tor to JAP. Its much simpler and faster.

JAP

To download JAP click here. The setup will download the entire package to be installed.

Install as instructed.

Choose the correct browser you want to use to surf anonymously. While doing that you can still use your other browsers to browse the web normally.

Changing the Proxy Settings in Internet Explorer

Click Tools > Internet Options

Under Connections Tab click Settings.

Check Use a Proxy server for this connection. Address: 127.0.0.1 Port: 4001

Click OK. Click OK again.

Configuring for Firefox

To change Proxy Settings Click Tools > Options > Advanced

Under Network tab click Settings > Select Manual Proxy Configuration

HTTP Proxy: 127.0.0.1 Port: 4001

Check Use this proxy server for all protocols.

Click OK. Click OK again.

When running JAP select Dresden – Dresden service. It is much faster than others.

Tor

To Download Tor click here.

Install all of the components including Vidalia. Its the GUI of Tor.

Run Tor. Nothing else to configure.

Firefox users can download the tor button add on for Firefox from here to use Tor more conveniently.
